A new hotel seems to have opened up for the discerning cannabis traveller, right in the heart of Toronto.

Just don’t expect Grateful Dead posters and shag carpet — all in all, this accommodation is surprisingly, well average.

Billing itself as the “the world’s first cannabis hotel featuring smoking lounges,” Cannabis Air is open for business. The only problem is, outside of their website, it’s hard to find much info on the “luxury” accommodations.

The website lists 53 McCaul Street in Toronto as the business’ location. Not to be confused with 49 McCaul Street, the address listed on the site’s Facebook page.

An employee of Cannabis Air confirmed to Daily Hive that all guests must be 19 years of age or older to stay in the hotel, though booking options still include a space to select children as guests. Currently, they do not accept credit cards, but say they are setting up merchant services shortly. When selecting bookings on the website, it asks for clients to email their reservation information.

The ‘cannabis lounges’ are private outdoor patio spaces that come with each room. Which is to say, they’re a regular hotel room patio. Smoking is not allowed inside, according to staff, because roasting a bone inside a business setting is currently illegal in Ontario. The business’ Facebook, Instagram and Twitter contain pictures of the amenities in the building and the nearby area, which include a library, outdoor pool and ping-pong tables.

Other luxuries include a fitness centre, personal training, pool table and games room, meeting facilities, free WiFi, private balcony rooms, sweeping city views, coin laundry, and pet-friendly accommodation.

There is also a “24-hour cannabis concierge service” to answer guest’s questions about weed and offer insights into the city. Add to that the ominous and/or innocuous message “our cannabis concierge experts are available for anything you need,” and it sounds like quite the night.

Prices are what you might expect from a downtown Airbnb stay, running from $249 to $299 for a one or two bedroom respectively. Which is a tad ironic when you consider that, though we cannot confirm these are the same condo, the images of the one bedroom + den ($274 a night) on Cannabis Air, and this Airbnb listing ($249 a night) seem to share the same layout and interior decorator. As of December 11, the images were changed.

The Airbnb user’s account name is Chris, the same first name as the business owner confirmed by a Cannabis Air employee to Grow.

A search shows that 53 McCaul St. is a condo building in a larger complex called Village by the Grange (VBTG). Units are listed for rent and sale. Calls to VBTG offices were not able to confirm their specific knowledge of Cannabis Air, though one employee did say a section of the building had been rented out to a business, and the area often “smells like weed.”

Photos used in the Cannabis Air website’s ‘amenities’ section uses a photo that appears to be a cropped version taken from VBTG’s website.
